UMF snowboarders earn five medals at Sunday River

NEWRY – The University of Maine at Farmington snowboard team had five members earn a medal on Saturday at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) slopestyle event held in the three-dimensional terrain park at Sunday River.

In the men’s jams session, 18-22 age group, the Beavers had three medalists with Drew Bates (Presque Isle, Maine/Presque Isle) leading the way in first place. Bates won the event with 1,030 points and scored 54.00 on his jumps. Joe Menard (Portland, Maine/Portland) trailed in second place with 920 points and tallied 35.67 on his jumps. John Hutton (Greene, Maine/Home School) followed in third place with 810 points and 34.67 on his jumps.

In the men’s skier race, 18-29 age group, two more UMF racers earned a medal. Isaac Wright (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) came in second place with 920 points and scored 49.00 on his jumps. Vaughn Keenhold (Braintree, Vt./Randolph Union) placed third behind Wright with 810 points and recorded a score of 44.33 on his jumps.

The UMF snowboard team returns to action on Friday at Sugarloaf.
