CASTLETON, Vt. – University of Maine at Farmington softball (7-22, 4-8) dropped both games at Castleton University (17-11, 10-2) of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers fell in game one, 12-0, and could not bounce back in game two, 9-0.

UMF was held to just two total hits in the first game with the base hits coming from Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) and Kylie Cunningham (Bangor, Maine/Bangor).

Kailyn Hill (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon) pitched her 11th complete game of her rookie campaign and surrendered five earned runs with one strikeout.

In the second game, Castleton’s pitching could not be stopped as the Beavers were held to only a pair of hits again. Cunningham came through with her second hit of the afternoon and Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) recorded UMF’s second base hit.

Abby Burdin (Guilford, Maine/Piscataquis) closed out her collegiate career with a complete game.

The Spartans’ power hitters showed up on Saturday afternoon by crushing a total of five home runs and eight extra-base hits.

UMF showed improvement in its win total from a season ago and offensive production. Cunningham finished second in the NAC in batting average (.461) and on-base percentage (.506). Alison Hamilton (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) had a 13-game hitting streak snapped today and the junior only failed to record a hit in four of UMF’s 29 games this season.
