UMF softball selected third in conference preseason poll

WHITINGHAM, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington softball team was selected to finish third in the in the 2015 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball preseason poll.

Castleton earned the top spot with a total of 45 points, including four of the seven first-place votes. Husson, the 2014 champion, was voted second with 44 points and garnered the three remaining first-place votes, while the University of Maine at Farmington came in third with 28 points.

Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the league’s head softball coaches.

UMF will look to senior Hannah Lust (designated hitter), juniors Meryl Boyd (catcher) and Shelby Bryant (outfielder), and sophomores Kennadi Grover (first base) and Katie Clark (infielder) to lead the 2015 squad. Top newcomers include pitcher Abby Burdin, infielder Margaret Fogarty, and outfielder Kiana Thompson. With a youthful approach to this season, UMF looks to build on the success of last year. UMF will play Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby, highlighting the non-conference section of the 2015 schedule.
