UMF women’s soccer rolls past UMPI, 7-1

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine Farmington women’s soccer team (4-4) scored six first half goals in rolling past The University of Maine at Presque Isle (1-5-1), 7-1 on Sunday at Leib Field.

Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine) got the ball rolling for the Beavers at the 10-minute mark on an unassisted goal. The Beavers would then score three goals in a two-minute span. Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) scored in the 23rd minute on an assist from Hadlee Yescott (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough). Lydia Roy (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) would find the back of the net, 45 seconds later, set-up by Ashley Gleason. Hadlee Yescott scored one of her own, giving the Beavers a 4-0 lead.

UMF would score twice more before the break, Lydia Roy getting her second goal of the game and Haley Murano (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) off a pass from Sophie Manning (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook).

UMPI would get on the board in the 43rd minute on an unassisted goal by Carla Halvorson.

Humphrey would score her second goal of the game and gave UMF its final margin of victory in the 50th minute.

UMF out shot UMPI on the day 49-7.

Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt.Blue) had a quiet day in goal only facing one shot to get the win (4-2). Allison Lopez made 22 saves in the losing effort.

The Beavers are 4-1 over their last five games and have outscored their opponents 26-4 in that stretch.

UMF returns to conference play on Saturday at Thomas College.
