UMF’s Jacques places in the top 10 at Sunday River

NEWRY – University of Maine at Farmington alpine skier Lindsey Jacques (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) led the alpine ski team in Sunday’s United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Reynolds Division alpine race at Sunday River with a seventh place finish.

Jacques earned her top 10 spot with a total time of 1:50.79 out of 86 qualified racers and trailed Bates’ Elly Bengtsson by two seconds for first place. Paige Butterfield (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) improved her overall time by two seconds after her first run. Butterfield was timed at 1:04.91 after the first trial but propelled her way to 1:02.62 in the second run for a combined time of 2:07.53 and earned a 43rd place finish.

In the men’s race, Jeremy Demers (Boscawen, N.H./Bishop Grady) placed 63rd overall out of 95 qualified racers with a total time of 2:08.95. Demers nearly had identical times with this two runs after crossing the line at 1:04.44 in the first run and 1:04.51 in the second run. Jacob Violette followed in 67th place with a total time of 2:10.56. Marshall Golas (Brookline, N.H./Bishop Guertin) came in 72nd for the Beavers at 2:17.30. Alex Greenleaf (Livermore Falls, Maine/Spruce Mountain) rounded out UMF’s scoring in 90th place with a combined time of 2:44.73.

The UMF alpine team returns to the slopes on Saturday at Titcomb Mountain while the snowboard team competes at Sunday River.
