UMF’s Labbe wins 15-K race at Black Mountain

RUMFORD – University of Maine at Farmington nordic skier Alisha Labbe (Turner, Maine/Leavitt) won the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Katadhim Nordic 15-kilometer race on Saturday afternoon, hosted at Black Mountain.

Labbe crossed the line at 55:17, which was nearly a full second ahead of the competition for the top spot. Megan Morrison (Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) followed in fourth place with a time of 1:04:51. Ellie Pinto (Essex, Vt./Essex) trailed Morrison in fifth place at 1:12:39 and Krystal Blood (East Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) finished seventh at 1:28:46.

In the men’s 15-kilometer race, Calen Mendall (Manchester, Maine/Home School) placed second overall with a time of 51:33. Bryce Neal (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) trailed Mendall for third place at 53:01 and Joshua Richards (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) came in fourth place at 1:03:19.

In the sit skier race, Christina Kouros (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) won the event and finished the race at 28:20.


Golas leads UMF alpine at Sunday River

NEWRY – University of Maine at Farmington alpine skier Mitchell Golas (Brookline, N.H./Brookline) guided the alpine ski team with a 32nd place finish in Saturday’s United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Thompson Division giant slalom race at Sunday River.

Golas finished the race with a time of 1:46.48 for the 32nd place finish out of 57 qualified racers. Jacob Violette (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) raced his way to a 48th place finish after posting a 2:21.08 total time. Alex Greenleaf (Livermore Falls, Maine/Spruce Mountain) rounded out the men’s scoring in 52nd at 2:31.43.

In the women’s race, Paige Butterfield (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) placed 42nd out of 62 qualified racers with a combined time of 2:01.00.

The UMF Nordic team hits the course again on Sunday at Black Mountain and the alpine team returns to the slopes at Sunday River.
