FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s basketball team (2-5, 2-1) closed out the semester with a, 72-41, loss to Bowdoin College on Friday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers started the game with a lot of energy, but could not find the bottom of the net to keep pace with the Polar Bears. Bowdoin developed a 10-point lead in the first eight minutes of the game and increased the margin to 17 points with 5:30 left in the opening half. The Polar Bears held a 36-14 lead at the break.

Uriah Forest-Bulley muscled his way in the paint, scoring eight of his team-high 15 points in the second half. The captain from Turner Falls, Mass. shot 3 of 6 from the field and a perfect 2 for 2 in the final frame.

With 2:27 remaining in the game, the Beavers forced a Bowdoin turnover and Pet Sumner drove to the hole on a fast break with two Bowdoin defenders contesting his layup. After two bounces on the rim, the ball found nothing but nylon and gave Sumner his 1,000th and 1,001 career point. The senior becomes the 17th member to score 1,000 career points at UMF.

Bowdoin’s Lucas Hausman notched a game-high 23 points on 9 of 15 shooting and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Farmington returns to action in 2015, hosting non-conference opponent Colby on Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. in Dearborn Gymnasium.
