Western Maine United goes 2-0 in Sunday’s playoff rounds

Game 1: WMU U14-Allen 4, Maranacook 1
Game 2: WMU U14-Allen 2, Kittery 1

KITTERY – Western Maine United went 2-0 in their playoff rounds on Sunday. With a win or tie this Saturday versus South Portland, WMU would advance to the state semi-finals.

In their first match Evan Allen had two goals and a assist, Tyson Hill added a goal and Kenyon Pillsbury added another to beat Maranacook. Ethan Powell was stellar in net making 7 saves on 8 shots.

In their second game, WMU overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with goals from Evan Allen and Tyson Hill to beat the host team Kittery 2-1. Ethan Powell again was stellar in net for WMU with 5 saves on 6 shots.

Also having stellar efforts for WMU were Summer Ross, Dylan Starbird, Jed Zelie, Denny Marble, Kenyon Pillsbury, Cole Rugh, Dana Witham, Lilly Kenney,Gretchen Huish, Dawson Brackley, Ben Starbird, Kaci Presby, JB Jordan, Harry Walters.

Madison Phelps is also a member of the squad but suffered an injury and was unable to play.

WMU will play again on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Kittery vs. South Portland. With a win or tie, WMU would advance to the state semi-finals.
