Women’s basketball: Five Beavers chart double figures as UMF rolls to a win over Green Mountain

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball team (11-8, 9-3) used double figures by five different players to pick up an 84-26 North Atlantic Conference win on Friday night over Green Mountain College (0-18, 0-13) in Dearborn Gymnasium.

Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region) led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and made all three trips to the foul line. Smith added five rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block to her 15 points.

Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) had a strong night from long range as the sophomore tallied 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting with nine points coming from beyond the arc. Talarico added three rebounds and a pair of assists. Haley Felkel (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) set a career-high with 11 points and six rebounds. Emma Duggan (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) matched Felkel with 11 points for the Beavers and Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) contributed 10 points.

Torie Cowell guided the Eagles with 10 points, six rebounds, and recorded a steal. Keelin Banks added six points off the bench and Sherelle Jackson earned five points from the charity stripe.

The Beavers shot an impressive 47.3% (35-74) from the field tonight and set a season-high for the most field goals made. UMF also dominated the paint with 40 points coming from the lower block.

UMF returns to the hardwood tomorrow afternoon with a visit from Castleton University.
