NEW LONDON, N.H. – University of Maine at Farmington (11-11,9-6) junior forward Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) scored a career-high 25 points on Friday night as the Beavers were tripped up on the road with a 70-61 North Atlantic Conference loss at Colby-Sawyer College (11-11,8-8).
Grover reached the 20-point mark for the second time in her career on 11-of-20 shooting with a three-pointer and grabbed six rebounds. Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The senior netted four shots from the floor, four shots from the foul line, and dished a pair of assists. Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) added 13 points for the Beavers on 3-of-5 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and made all four trips to the free throw line.
The Chargers also had three players chart double figures with Amanda Calvo leading the team with 16 points. Calvo complemented her point total with four assists, two rebounds, and one steal. Jessica Shenkel contributed 14 points off the bench on 5-of-11 shooting and knocked down four attempts from long range. Morgan Fogg netted 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and made a pair of free throws.
Colby-Sawyer shot 50.0 percent from the floor and three-point land in the opening half to generate a 15-point lead at the break, but the UMF defense stepped up the second half. The Beavers held the Chargers to only 30.0 percent from the field in the second half and outscored their opponents 722-674 this season in the second half. UMF managed to get the disadvantage down to single digits in the fourth quarter but could not produce enough offense to steal the victory.
UMF travels to New England College on Saturday afternoon.
