Women’s soccer: Bowdoin 4, UMF 0

BRUNSWICK – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer game fell 4-0 to an undefeated Bowdoin in a non-conference match-up on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers gave up four first half goals as UMF has dropped three straight games. The Polar Bears put 22 shots on goals as their defense stayed in check, not allowing a UMF player to get a shot on goal.

Kiersten Turner scored her third goal of the season at 6:03 into the game off an assist from Bridgit Bergin. Amanda Kinneston increased the deficit 1:10 later when she found the back of the net on an unassisted goal, her third of the season and tying Turner for the team lead.

The Polar Bears when 20 minutes without scoring before Julia Bottone scored her first goal of the season after an assist from Kinneston. Jill Rathke also scored her first goal of the season just before the end of the first half to make the game 4-0.

Sam Hatch recorded nine saves on 13 shots on goal for UMF. Bowdoin goalie Rachel Stout did not allow a goal in 58:15 of play and Bridget McCarthy kept the shut out in her 31:45 of relief.

UMF (1-4) will travel to Vermont on Saturday, Sept. 27 to begin conference play against Green Mountain College.
