GORHAM – The University of Maine at Farmington (3-7-1) women’s soccer team snapped a three-game skid on Wednesday with a 4-1 non-conference win at the University of Southern Maine (3-7).

The dual-threat of freshmen Lydia Roy (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) helped the Beavers take an early 2-0 lead. In the fifth minute, Gleason played the ball in front of the goal and then dished the assist off to Roy, who tallied her fifth goal of the year.

Four minutes later, Gleason scored a goal of her own by capitalizing on a turnover. The Huskies turned the ball over at the top of the box and Gleason was there for the breakaway score.

Katie Clark (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) gave UMF a 3-0 edge in the 16 minute when the senior fired a shot from about 30 yards out for the unassisted goal.

After USM got on the board in the 59th minute, Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) added the final goal of the contest with a penalty kick in the final two minutes.

Today’s win marks the largest margin of victory on record for the Beavers against the Huskies. UMF has yet to lose to USM in the last four meetings (3-0-1) and have outscored the Huskies 11-6.

Farmington returns home on Saturday to host Castleton University at 12:30 p.m.
